On Monday we all were “Sporting Our Trainers” for Sport Relief and the Zebras have followed that up by organising healthy, fruit cocktail snacks for the whole school to purchase at our tuck shop. These snacks, along with some home baking and the usual selection of rolls will all be available at tomorrow morning’s Family Breakfast. Doors will open at 8:30. All families are welcome, with proceeds from the breakfast being donated by the Parent Council to the school’s fund. We would love to see as many of you there as possible.
Monday 12 March
Our classes have been busy again this past week. On Monday last week a group of our P6 and P7 pupils went to the Meadows to participate in a cross country running festival. As usual, the behaviour was excellent and our runners put up a very good show.
On Tuesday Mrs Imrie enjoyed some more fine dining, this time with Lethee and Mathias from the Wildcats class. Well done to both of them on getting 100 house vouchers.
On Thursday the Giraffes went to a tennis festival at Craiglockhart and had a great time working with boys and girls from our other cluster primary schools, whiloe on the same day the Lions sent a team of four pupils to a maths festival at Merchiston Castle school. Well done to everyone who participated and tried their very best.
Finally, we have attached a copy of the new school dinners menu. The cost of a dinner remains £1.75 and we ask that you send in payment on Monday morning in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name, class and days they are having a dinner. Simply click on the image below to enlarge it.
Friday 2 March – The Colinton Cup
Congratulations to Shreya in The Lions class for being our latest recipient of The Colinton Cup. This month Shreya has consistently demonstrated good manners to adults and children, and consistently been kind towards the other children in the school. She fully deserves her award. Well done Shreya.
Thursday 1 March – World Book Day
Q-What can you do up a hill, on a swing, in a river, upside down, in a fridge, in the bath and on top of a car?
A-Read a book! Don’t believe us? Have a look at some of the incredible places our pupils and staff found themselves reading over the past few weeks.

What a wonderful day we have had celebrating World Book Day. Almost every pupil and member of staff dressed up ready for a bedtime story or as their favourite character from a book. Well done to everyone who joined in. We hope you enjoy the photos.
Wednesday 29 February
We have a special week going on this week. Yesterday the Giraffes and the Zebras had a visit from the Fire Brigade where they learned lots of sensible safety tips about what to do in the event of a fire. There is more information about what to do for children and for adults here.
We have also been receiving your children’s extreme reading photographs and have been really impressed with the inventiveness that has been shown in thinking up new and unusual places to have a read. A selection of the photographs will appear on the website soon and will be on display in the reception area very soon. We’d also like to remind you all that World Book Day is tomorrow and we are encouraging everyone to come to school dressed as their favourite character or in their pyjamas, ready for a bedtime story.
…and finally, we’d like to all wish Mrs Fraser a very Happy Birthday. She only gets to celebrate her birthday on the proper day once every four years so we hope today is extra special for her and we’d like to take this opportunity to wish her many happy returns from everyone at the school
Thursday 23 February
All of our pupils have been very busy this week. Well done to Alan (The Zebras), Tilly, Kieren F (both Wildcats) and Junior (The Giraffes) who have earned 100 house vouchers. Mrs Imrie said she thoroughly enjoyed her fine dining on Tuesday at lunchtime. Our Zebras in P6/7 had a visit and talk from the Youth Agency for Drug Awareness, which will complement all the learning they are doing on this topic within the class. Eight of our senior pupils will be practising tomorrow for the Edinburgh Schools Swimming Gala taking place on Wednesday 28 March and we wish them all the best in that. We have updated the Golden Book for this week and we would, finally, like to remind everyone of our “Extreme Reading” initiative. Please send you child’s photo to school by Monday next week or email it to extremereadingcolinton@gmail.com. We have already had some great photos and we are really looking forward to seeing some of the unique places for reading a book that your children have found.
