In this section we celebrate some of the outstanding achievements of our pupils.

Wednesday 2 May

Alan in the Zebras became the Scottish champion in Scottish Tradition Accordian playing this weekend when he attended a competition in Liverpool.  Alan and Kyle won 2nd place for their duet.  Both boys have worked very hard practising and it has obviously paid off.  Well done to you.

A huge “Well Done” to Taylor (Polar Bears) for trying very hard with his handwriting-he can now do small, neat handwriting.  Keep up the good work.

Congratulations to Nau, Aedan, Brooke, Nathan, Baillie, Kieran M, Chloe, Hannah and Finlay in the Polar Bears.  They took their time with their maths and got all their take away problem correct.  Well done to you all.

The Penguins have been writing stories about being a firefighter.  Ayden, SHane, Max and Joseva all drew super pictures and wrote great stories using their imaginations.  Well done!  

Wednesday 25 April

Well done to Lilly and Erin from the Nursery.  They did some lovely throwing and catching together.

Well done to Jamie, Euan, PJ and Kerr for their excellent behaviour and attitude at the Breakfast Club, and to Amelia and Katie for their lovely manners.

Wednesday 28 March

Well done to Leah, Tia, Lethee, Connor, Tilly and Kezziah (Wildcats).  You have all mastered some very difficult sounds and very hard words in Codecracker B9.

Kieran and Ella-Lea have made great progress with their reading, writing and number.  All of the adults who work with them regularly are very proud of them.

Congratulations to Tayla, Kiera and Callum Wilson, Cameron (Giraffes) and Jack (Penguins) who all ran the Sport Relief mile.  Very Well done to you.

Jay (Lions) has been working very hard to improve his writing by using and remembering the VCOP rules.  Well done!

Louise (Polar Bears) impressed some of our older children with her knowledge of symmetry and did a great job of sharing it with them.

And finally, well done and thank you to all the House Captains for their hard work before, during and after the house activity this week.

Wednesday 21 March

Well done to Amelia and Hannah in the Polar Bears for writing all the stories of 8 without any help.  They got all the answers correct and wrote their numbers properly.  What stars!

A big well done to Team Giraffe for all their hard work to create their Tanzania exhibition.  They had listened well at their museum workshop and used their learning to make their exhibition fabulous.

Well done to all 11 runners who took part in the Edinburgh Schools Cross Country event.  They all gave 100% on a very challenging course and did Colinton Primary proud.

Wednesday 14 March

Well done Marica.  You wrote a super story for the World Book Day competition.  It showed many of the writing techniques we have been learning.

Tayla in the Polar Bears worked very hard in maths to make all the stories of six.  She was a very independent learner.

Well done to Hannah in the Polar Bears for swimming one length of the pool without armbands.  What a successful learner.

Scarlett in the Penguins has had a great week.  Not only has she written a story with a “wow” word but she has written all the numbers up to sixty by herself.  Keep up that successful learning.

All of these Penguins listened carefully, worked hard and performed some super gymnastics with Mrs Jeffrey- Max, Jack, Laura, Edward, Danicka and Eve.

Well done to Heather and Jayden in the Otters who have been working really hard on their handwriting for the past few weeks.  It is now looking great.

Well done to Emma (The Otters) who worked hard to complete a tricky piece of written work yesterday.  She used careful spelling and handwriting and included all the information she needed.

A huge well done to Brooke in the Polar Bears who has learned to swim without armbands.

Hallie (The Penguins) deserves to be in the Golden Book because, since starting school in January, has worked so hard and been friendly and helpful with everyone.  Well done Hallie, you help make our classroom a lovely place to be.

Ballie and Connor in the Polar Bears have worked really well together to do some very good reading with Ms Martin.

Wednesday 29 February

Congratulations to Luke (Penguins) for his excellent story about the three little pigs and the big, bad wolf.

Brooke (The Polar Bears) showed a beautiful Teddy Bear roll in gym.  She had straight legs and rolled onto her side first.

Josh showed excellent manners when walking back to class with Alan (The Zebras) after reading.  He let Mrs Bates through the door first and held it open for her.

Nathan read really well with Courtney during their paired reading time.

Jona (Zebras) has worked really hard and can now divide and multiply by 10 or 100 with superb accuracy.  What a successful learner!

Well done to Euan in the Penguins.  He wrote a very good sentence about an alien with hardly and help at all from Ms Martin.

Wednesday 22 February

Well done to Kieran, Adyn and Daniel in the Polar Bears for their fantastic writing and also doing such detailed drawings of their people.

Ella-Lea (The Wildcats) did super spelling to spell all 27 of her tricky words.  Well done.

Elizabeth (The Zebras) persevered with her division in maths, getting it in the end.  What a successful learner.

Zander and Callum Y in the Otters have done some fantastic maths.  They have worked really hard in learning how to add three numbers together and are now great at it.

Well done to Jay, Euan C, Callum W, Alexander, Robin and Jeke (The Lions) who all worked extremely hard at spelling, doing a big test then learning new words.  What great concentration they showed.

Kieran C in the Wildcats was a maths star today.  He whizzed through pages of his workbook with super confidence.

Wednesday 8 February

Well done to Sneha in the penguins.  You have been working hard to make your writing neat and easy to read.  What a successful learner.

Eroni spent a lot of time on his “homework,” filling 12 pages with writing on every line.

Well done to Nau, you are the first person in the Polar Bears who can count back from 20 to 10.

Well done to Jayden, in the Otters class, who spent time working with Hannah helping her catch up with somemaths she missed when she was off.

Osevati in the Otters has been trying so hard with his reading this week.  Well done!

Danicka (Penguins) has been a maths star this week.  Well done for working so hard with your addition games and sums.

Well done to Kerr (Giraffes), Leon (Zebras), Kyle (Zebras), Ethan (Giraffes) and Miti (Lions) who had the highest scores on Sumdog last week.  All have been playing these maths games in their own time.  You are excellent, independent learners.

Well done to all the Wildcats.  Everyone had their gym kit for gymnastics this week.

Wednesday 1 February

Kyle (The Zebras) has worked very hard over a long period to improve his handwriting. He is now able to produce lovely joined up work.

Well done to George (The Lions) who, with a little help from his mum & dad, raised £70 for his sponsored ceilidh.  The Lions in total raised over £200.  Wow!

A huge well done to all the Lions for their Burns supper.  They were all stars and the evening was a great success.  Thanks also to the house captains, deputies and Marica who were a great help on the evening.  We could not have done it without you.

Wednesday 25 January

Amelia and Brooke have been working very hard and got 10 out of 10 in their tricky word spelling test.  Well done girls!

Courtney (Giraffes) has made huge progress on her story writing-punctuation is more accurate and she is using conectives to make her stories more exciting.  Well done and keep it up.

Hannah and James from the Otters class did some really good team work whilst working on their number bonds.  They took turns and worked really well together.

Sean (The Giraffes) thinks his reading buddy Lucy (The Penguins) is a great partner and he is really enjoying working with her.

Laura, Joseva and Max in the penguins did a tricky word spelling test and remembered how to write everything perfectly.  Well done!

Edward and Luke (The Penguins) enjoyed making a map of Scotland.  Mrs Bates thought you both worked especially hard.  Your maps of Scotland look super.

Wednesday 18 January

Well done and thank you to Ethan, Lex and Kyle who played the violins to the Zebra class. We were very impressed.

Well done to Kiern (The Polar Bears) for lovely handwriting for our “ay” sound and for reading all the “ay” words.  What a successful learner.

Max and Laura (The Penguins) have made a great start to the new term.  They listen well and always try hard with their work.  They are always kind to other children too.  Well done!

Mrs Hill and Mum would like to say what a fantastic big brother Robin (The Lions) has been to his new baby sister.  Well done Robin for being so caring and responsible.

Adyn in the Polar Bear class is a star.  He wrote his dictation sentence without any mistakes!  He even remembered to put the full stop in at the end.

Louise and Adam (the Penguins and Otters) were very responsible when they were faced with an emergency.  The reacted in a very calm and brave way.  Well done.

Well done Giraffes.  They all remembered their PE kit on Tuesday. Keep it up.

Carra Groom has worked very hard over the holidays.  She has completed her JASS project, spending 8 hours baking, writing up her recipes and producing a lovely folder.  Great independent learning.

Wednesday 14 December

Well done to Baillie who has been trying very hard and can write his name all by himself.  

Well done to Nick, Niamh, Dylan, Jamie, Brandon, Amani, Callum S, Louise and George from the Lions.  They all completed their homework challenge-to find a Christmas word for every letter of the alphabet.  There were lots of imaginative ideas.  Well Done.

A special mention for PJ in the Lions class for super story writing.  He wrote a fantastic letter to the King to apply for a job.  

Hannah in the Otters has excellent manners.  She always says thank you. Leanne from the Giraffes has noticed and asked if she could be put in the Golden Book.

Thursday 1 December

Well done to all of the Polar Bear class, they did such good listening and worked so hard that EVERYBODY got put on the sunshine!  WOW!

Thank you to Marica (The Zebras) for looking after Chloe in P2 so well at the Panto which we all enjoyed.

A huge round of applause to the Xmas Factor choir.  You were briliant and certainly had the WOW factor!

Well done to Osevati (The Otters) who worked so hard in art with our star display, doing so much more than what was asked of him.

Mathias (The Wildcats) has the most incredibly neat handwriting.  It is so easy to read and mark.

Well done to Tia (The Wildcats) who has worked hard to learn how to skip and is making good progress now.

Well done to Baillie (The Polar Bears) for his fantastic number work.  He counted the flowers and wrote the numbers all the way to number 9 without any help.  Well done!

Well done to Ryan, James, Tabitha and Osevati (The Otters).  They have been trying really hard to follow instructions and be ready to listen.

Well done to Jack (The Penguins) for learning to swim without armbands for the first time ever.

Well done to Kevin, Ethan and Kerr (The Giraffes) who all worked very hard on their division calculations.  The presentation of their work was beautiful as well.  Great effort.

Congratulations to the Zebras class for succeeding in their Pentland Hills challenge of walking up Allermuir Hill.  A fantastic effort from everyone, even with some blisters and tired legs.  Very well done.

Wednesday 9 November

Lucy (The Penguins) worked very hard with her numbers-she wrote them beautifully and counted carefully.  What a successful learner!

Ayden (The Penguins) drew a fantastic picture in his story jotter all about a balloon.  He did some super writing too.  Well done

A huge well done from all the P7 pupils who went to camp to Mrs Jeffrey for achieving her goal on the trapeze and congratulations to Mrs Fraser who went on the giant swing at Dalguise.

Well done to Aaron in the Penguins.  You were kind and helped Ewan when he had forgotten his book.

Well done to Jayden (the Otters) who did some fantastic skipping in PE last week.  He worked really well on his own and when two people moved the rope for him.

Well done to Hannah in the Polar Bears class.  You managed to write all your numbers even though you had a sore finger.  What a superstar!

Wednesday 2 November

The nursery (Kangaroos) really enjoyed a performance of Peter and the Wolf by the Leopards, a group in the P4/5 Lions class.  They spoke up clearly and played their parts convincingly.

Mrs Carr was proud of each and every child in the Wildcats for being so sensible at last week’s Harvest Assembly.  They all kept quiet whilst others were speaking and they all tried to speak loudly and clearly when it was their turn.

Well done to Courtney (The Zebras) for your positive attitude and hard work.  It is helping you make good progress in your maths and are showing a good understanding of decimal numbers.

Lex and Rosa (The Zebras) played brilliantly in tag rugby.  They were quick and always thinking about moving the ball forward.  The showed great team work too.

Well done to Nau and Amelia from the Polar Bears for their fantastic story writing.  You wrote a great story about Halloween and drew a great picture to go with it.

Well done to Kieran in the Polar Bears for working so hard to learn all of his key words in reading.  You are a star!

Well done to the Floppy reading group who read out a verse each of their poem “Bed in Summer” to the class.  They all worked and practised really hard. It was great!

Well done to Daniel in the Polar Bears class for writing an amazing story at home and then sharing it with the class.  We thought it was great!

Wednesday 12 October

Well done to Tabitha, James, Zander and Heather from The Otters.  Their table has been doing so well at getting organised and being ready to learn.

Aseda from The Otters has also done a fabulous job at assemblies of singing, smiling and joining in with the actions.

Well done to Finlay in the Polar Bears class who has worked very hard at writing a beautiful number two.  Mrs Pentland is very proud of you.

Corey  has done a really super piece of art of a tsunami as part of The Wildcats’ Fragile Earth project.  He took his time and was very careful.

Well done to Stephanie (The Giraffes) who was extremely helpful in class this week.  She helped Jack, who had been absent last week, by explaining the science task so that he could complete it.  Thank you Stephanie.

Well done to the Giraffes, Wildcats and Otters for all having their PE kits this week.  The Giraffes have collected the most marbles for PE this term and have won themselves some extra PE.

Wednesday 5 October

Lethee (The Wildcats) completed a very tricky number grid in class all by herself and got everything correct.  Well done Lethee.

Saffron (The Wildcats) is just about the most cheerful and happy girl in the class. She always has a smiling face when she arrives in the morning.  

Joseva (The Penguins) always uses lovely manners-other teachers have noticed too.  He helps make our classroom a nice place to be.  Well done to an effective contributor.  

Well done to the P7 pupils who have been giving extra effort to homework tasks.  They are:-

  • Alan and Liam D who managed an incredible list of islands around Britain.
  • Rosa, who produced a fantastic illustration of a character for our class novel.
  • Leon, who wrote a very interesting story using his spelling words.

Wednesday 28 September

Well done to Carra (Zebras) for helping Hannah in the Polar Bears.  Hannah’s dad is really impressed with how kind you have been.  

Mrs Hunter, the swimming teacher, was very impressed with the great manners shown by the boys in the Lions class.  Well done to Jamie, Jack, PJ, Amani, Alex and Euan.

Well done to Edward and Max (Penguins) for working so hard with their even numbers. They are successful learners.

Thank you to Ryan and Scarlett (Penguins) for doing such a fantastic job tidying our painting table on Friday.  They are so responsible.

Well done to Callum (The Otters) who did some great work in maths yesterday and tried really hard!

Zander has been trying and concentrating hard in maths this week.  Well done!  Ryan and Samuel demonstrated fantastic jumps in PE yesterday.  They showed great technique and creativity in their sequence of three jumps.

Tilly and Ceanna (Wildcats) work hard at writing long stories.  They really get stuck into their writing.  Well done.

Wednesday 21 September

Shreya was so kind in the lunch hall on Tuesday.  When Niamh dropped her lunch on the floor Shreya offered her half of hers.  What a lovely gesture.

Well done Lions, the only class in the school to have all remembered their gym kit on a Tuesday for Mrs Jeffrey.  Keep it up.

Well done to Cameron in the Zebras for being such an excellent buddy to his P1 girl at the parents lunch and workshop last week.

Wednesday 14 September

The P4/5 swimming group have really impressed Mrs Hunter, their teacher, with their good listening and their determination to learn how to swim.

Alan Rowan won 2nd place and received a silver medal at a karate competition at the beginning of the month.

Alan and his brother Kyle both played their accordions for the first time in public at the Biggar Accordion and Fiddle Club.  Well done to you both.

Louise in P4/5 has been so responsible lately.  She has been keeping the adults right and we are all so happy to see you back in school.

Jodie in P5/6 has created an amazing picture for the Giraffe’s class (with just a little help from her Mum) and her dad put it in a frame.  It is going to look great in our classroom. Thanks Jodie.

Jagoda (The Wildcats) is a very hard-working member of the class.  When there is work to be done she gets on with it, does it very well and is usually finished first.

Wednesday 7 September

Well done to all of the zebras for completing such fantastic pieces of art.  Your Edinburgh Castle paintings are great (and in the Gallery of Work on the Zebras page).  

Leah and Kieran F (The Wildcats) both deserve a mention in the Golden Book for their excellent line drawing of a very fierce cat in “Hairy MacLary”- Scarface Claw!!

Leah is also so good about holding doors open for classmates and adults, while Kieran is one of the children who is always ready to learn and shows this by sitting quietly and looking at the teacher.

Wednesday 31 August

Kevin (Wildcats) wrote a really good story this week.  It made sense from start to finish and he tried to use full stops in all the right places.

Lethee (Wildcats) also wrote a very good story about two boys getting into difficulties in a river.  It was an exciting story.

Well done to Mathias (Wildcats) for excellent listening in PE.  He was a super example of how to work well in gym.

Corey in the Wildcats was really polite this morning.  Your good manners really made Mr Morrison smile.

Well done to Ella-Lea (The Wildcats) who has painted a very lovely, life-like wildcat.

Thank you to Matthew and Vani (The Zebras) for doing such a fab job of tidying up the classroom sink after art yesterday.
