All of our pupils have been very busy this week. Well done to Alan (The Zebras), Tilly, Kieren F (both Wildcats) and Junior (The Giraffes) who have earned 100 house vouchers. Mrs Imrie said she thoroughly enjoyed her fine dining on Tuesday at lunchtime. Our Zebras in P6/7 had a visit and talk from the Youth Agency for Drug Awareness, which will complement all the learning they are doing on this topic within the class. Eight of our senior pupils will be practising tomorrow for the Edinburgh Schools Swimming Gala taking place on Wednesday 28 March and we wish them all the best in that. We have updated the Golden Book for this week and we would, finally, like to remind everyone of our “Extreme Reading” initiative. Please send you child’s photo to school by Monday next week or email it to extremereadingcolinton@gmail.com. We have already had some great photos and we are really looking forward to seeing some of the unique places for reading a book that your children have found.

First of all we would like to congratulate Ethan (The Giraffes) on winning the Colinton Cup this month. Ethan has been working cooperatively with other pupils, ensures his work is well presented and has excellent manners with both the staff and other pupils. Well done Ethan.

We welcomed the parents of our P1 pupils starting in August into the school at the end of last week. These parents joined us for an assembly and took a tour of the school with our P7 pupils who did a wonderful job of showing everyone around.

Mrs Imrie has been busy hosting some fine dining events for pupils who have gained 100 house vouchers as well as some tea parties for the pupils who have earned 50 house vouchers. Well done to all those pupils who have reached their milestone target.

We would like to take the time to remind everyone of our “Extreme Reading” initiative. Details have been been sent home to every child and we look forward to seeing everyone’s photographs. We also sent two of our P7 pupils, Alan and Rosa, to Bonaly Primary on Monday for a special author/writers event. Both Alan and Rosa thoroughly enjoyed their day and have come back to Colinton full of good ideas.

The Parent Council met on Tuesday after school to discuss a number of items. A copy of the minutes is available to read from the school office. Any parents wishing to attend our Parent Council meetings are more than welcome to join us and should speak in the first instance to Mrs McGuigan about the timing of the next meeting.

Finally, we would like to wish everyone an enjoyable half term holiday. School finishes at the usual time on Friday and will return as usual on Monday 20 February.

After our Royal visitor on Monday we have been busy getting ourselves prepared for another important group of visitors. Tomorrow morning the parents of P1 children starting in August this year will join us for an assembly and a tour of the school. Our P7 pupils are looking forward to acting as guides for the parents and the rest of the school is excited about showing off some of the things they have been learning.

Our P4/5 pupils were able to share some of the Scots language work they have been covering to the listeners of Garrison FM. If you missed the broadcast then you only need to click on the media player below to hear some examples of the wonderful poems they have written. Well done Lions!

We have had a wonderfully exciting day at Colinton today. This afternoon we welcomed a very special guest, HRH Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvie, to the school.

The Princess enjoyed a tour of the school, the garden, the Family Room and Room To Be, meeting and speaking with children from every class. She was presented with a posy of flowers at the end of her tour by Caitlin Nicholson from the Otters class. We hope to have some photographs of the visit to share with you on our website very soon.

This week our classes have been very busy. The highlight was our Burns Supper on Wednesday evening when the hall was full of parents and invited guests enjoying a super plateful of haggis, neeps and tatties and a short performance from the Lions that covered dance, artwork, poetry and a whole lot more. We would like to say “Well Done” to everyone in the Lions class for making it such a successful evening as well as “Thank You” to our P7 assistants, who helped serve the food, and Mrs Hill & Mrs Buchanan for planning such a great evening.

There has been an awful lot going on in school this past week. The Lions have been busily preparing for their Burns Night celebration by learning poems, songs and dances. They had a non-stop ceilidh last week to raise funds for their Burns Supper and although the money collected has yet to be counted, we are absolutely delighted with the effort everyone in the class has made in getting sponsored. Well done to the Lions.

On the website we have updated the Diary, the Golden Book and have uploaded the latest copy of the school newsletter. In the photo gallery below you can see some photos from the ceilidh. You will also see that the Otters have been working on shape in their classroom and were looking around the playground for examples of the shapes discussed in class.

Friday 13 January-After School Clubs

We have had a very positive response to our after school clubs. Places for the P1-P3 movement and ball skills groups are now full and no more places are currently being offered. A text will be shortly sent (Friday afternoon) to parents of those children who will be attending. All children should bring a suitable change of clothes, light snack and water bottle along to the club. There are, however, still places available for the P4-P7 street dance club.

Happy New Year to all of you. We hope you had a lovely holiday.

Katie (The Otters): Our latest recipient of the Colinton Cup

Congratulations to Katie (P2-The Otters), our latest recipient of the Colinton Cup. Katie won the cup because she was consistently ready to work with all the correct equipment and demonstrated excellent manners to the other children in school. Well done to her.

We are straight into the new term and already we are are busily planning lots of exciting events and opportunities for our pupils.

Beginning next week (16 January) we have a number of new, active after school clubs starting. More details, along with the chance to sign your child up will be given out tomorrow. Parents of children in P1-P3 are invited to find out more at a meeting tomorrow morning at 9:00 am in the Family Room. The activities are:-

Mondays

Running Club (P4-P7). This replaces the athletics club and will be outdoors.

Movement Skills (P1-P3). Indoors.

Tuesdays

Netball (P4-P7). Indoors. There are no changes to the arrangements for this club.

Wednesdays

Fun ball skills (P1-P3). Indoors.

Thursdays

Football (P4-P7). Outdoors. There are no changes to the arrangements for this club.

Street Dance (P4-P7). Indoors.

All clubs have no charges for this term and will run from 3:15-4:00 (except netball and football which will run until 4:15). P1 and P2 children will be supervised in school until their clubs begin. If you are unable to attend the meeting please be advised that a copy of the consent forms is available on this website in the “Letters From The Office” section. Please complete and sign the form and return it to school as soon as possible.

The Lions are also beginning their preparations for Burns night. More details will follow as soon as they are available.

Today our P1 and Morning Nursery classes performed their nativity show for all their parents to see. Everyone had a super time singing and acting for the assembled mums and dads and we were delighted to see such a high turnout for the show. We were also really pleased to see all of the children enjoying themselves so much when they performed. Our thanks and congratulations must therefore go to everyone who contributed their time and efforts into making the show such a success. The Evening News will carry a photograph of the cast next week in their nativity supplement. We will let you know as soon as possible when the Colinton children will be featuring.
